JCSS Foundation Awards First-Ever Grants

The new Jackson County School System Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, awarded its first-ever grants during the school system's InspirEd Professional Learning Conference on Friday. The Foundation awarded seven grants across six different content areas, each for $1,000.
Three grants are named in honor of staff members who passed away. Heather Backer is the honorary name for the Physical Education Grant, Charlene Faulkner is the honorary name for the Family and Community Engagement Grant and Emily Dantzler is the honorary name for the Literacy Grant. The families of those staff members were in attendance Friday during the awarding of the grants.
The JCSS Foundation also sponsors grants in STEM/STEAM, CTAE and Performing Arts.
Chandler Mayfield, of Heroes Elementary School was awarded the Heather Backer P.E. Grant; Christa Cliver, of Heroes Elementary School, was awarded the Emily Dantzler Literacy Leader Grant; Ashley Bailey, of West Jackson Elementary School, was awarded the Charlene Faulkner Community Engagement Grant; Brooke Curtis, of Jackson County High School, was awarded the CTAE Grant; Robert Bryant, of East Jackson High School, and the trio team of Pamela Parker, Mildred Cotton and Lindsey Lee, of West Jackson Middle School, were awarded the STEM/STEAM Grant; and Ashley Ware, of Jackson County High School, was awarded the Performing Arts Grant.
